PREVALENCE AND CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF ANEMIA IN PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS: A RETROSPECTIVE STUDY

Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is one of the major challenges in modern medicine, characterized by severe complications and high rates of disability and mortality. In type 2 diabetes mellitus, anemia is a common but underrecognized clinical condition alongside macrovascular and microvascular damage. In patients with diabetes, anemia develops through mechanisms such as chronic inflammation, impaired erythropoietin synthesis, functional iron deficiency, and a shortened erythrocyte lifespan. In Uzbekistan, studying the prevalence of anemia, its risk factors, and its association with diabetes among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus is of particular importance.
