PREVALENCE AND CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF LIVER FIBROSIS IN PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS AND METABOLIC DYSFUNCTION-ASSOCIATED FATTY LIVER DISEASE
Published: 2026-04-18
Abstract
Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is detected in 60–70% of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The risk of developing liver fibrosis in these patients is several times higher than in the healthy population, with clinically significant fibrosis identified in 20–30% of patients. MAFLD and liver fibrosis have been shown to increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, and all-cause mortality.
